Photo of Grainger's Delicatessen

Maia and Dave Hinchey named their deli after Mrs Grainger, the local minister's wife who smuggled the Honours, Scotland's crown jewels, out from Dunnottar Castle under her skirts in 1651. She successfully hid them from Cromwell's army in Kinneff Church and Manse, where Maia grew up. There's no subterfuge about provenance at the deli though - Dave makes the artisan breads, Maia the home baking, and they stock a large selection of cheeses, charcuterie, olives, takeaway soups and sandwiches and wines.

In Dave and Maia Hinchey’s inspiring culinary treasure trove you’ll discover hard-to-find ingredients, quality homewares and cookery books alongside deli faithfuls. Fresh bread and cakes are complemented with a fridge filled with home-made pestos, pâtés and soups; the deli counter has a range of local cheeses as well as cured meats and olives. The couple, who named the delicatessen after the Grainger family famous for saving the Scottish Honours from Cromwell’s clutches in nearby Kinneff, can be found behind the counter most days serving takeaway hot drinks including excellent coffee.
