With access to around 900 wines, 50 gins, 80 rums and as many whiskies as a sister business named Royal Mile Whiskies would imply, Drinkmonger are almost guaranteed to be able to get their hands on whatever you’re looking for. Edinburgh’s store is the big sister to Pitlochry’s, with both specialising in Havana cigars as well as alcohol – there might be a more limited wine range in the Perthshire outpost, but they apparently have the largest walk-in humidor in the Highlands. Beer’s another strong point, with the choice of a couple of hundred, split roughly half and half between Scottish vs everywhere else. Unusually, both shops also have wee libraries of books on booze.
Drinkmonger on Pitlochry’s Atholl Road is an off-shoot of Royal Mile Whiskies in Edinburgh, specializing in 400 eclectic, worldly wines, stacked to the ceiling in half the shop and, in the other half, 200 craft beers, 30 gins, collectors malts, rums, vodkas, cognacs, Cuban cigars – and pipes. It’s a fine emporium for buffs, and indeed for the bamboozled too, as wines – many from smaller growers – are classified by grape instead of country to help you make new discoveries.
