The Glenlivet Distillery was founded by George Smith in 1824 in one of the coldest and most remote places in Britain, and is now owned by Pernod Ricard. Smith built his distillery close to Josie’s Well, one of several natural springs that provide the water for the single malts. The Glenlivet stable consists of the Classic Range: 12, 15, 18 and 21 years old and XXV, a batch-produced whisky finished in ex-sherry butts; first fill (bourbon), cask strength Nàdurra 16 Year Old; The Cellar Collection from selected years: 1964, 1969, 1972, 1973 and 1980; and 12 year old first fill for travel retail. The distillery has an exhibition room, café and gift shop, and offers tours (free or £30 tutored tasting), as well as the chance to fill your own bottle straight from cask.
