The Bakery Dunbar
When retirement brought Smith's bakery to a close after decades on Dunbar High Street, the town's residents weren't prepared to accept life without decent bread. Over 450 shareholders financed a new community bakery, which opened in October 2011, and is managed by a committee of volunteers. After all this effort, there would be no point in producing anything but the best baked goods: bread is made on site with no artificial ingredients, improvers or enhancements, as well as savoury pastries, quiche and pies, and sweet patisserie. The bakery also serves as a training post for young bakers.
Artisan breads and fine patisserie, all baked on site, with no artificial additives.
