The makers of Ayrshire Farmhouse ice-cream, this obviously takes centre stage in their café and farm shop. A multitude of flavours are made on the farm with the milk from their own Jersey cows. Sorbets use local fruit where possible, and are stocked in anything up to five-litre tubs. The farm shop also displays locally produced meats, cheese, vegetables, fruit, soups, home-baking and jams. A coffee shop sits alongside a play area for children, and serves up home baking, jacket potatoes, soup and sarnies.
Run by Willy and Joe Templeton, Catrine House, set on the popular River Ayr Walk, is just the kind of place you want to find on a day out in the countryside. The tranquil setting makes it the perfect place to stop for a coffee and homemade cake, a spot of lunch, or one of their own traditional farmhouse ice creams. There’s an outdoor play area for kids and indoors there’s plenty of space along with some comfy couches to relax. Whether you’re having a snack or something more filling, the menu has a good choice on offer. Homemade soup, a good range of sandwiches, jacket potatoes and salads make for an enjoyable lunch. It’s unlikely you’ll pass on the tempting range of home baking or the indulgent ice-cream sundaes, offering choices like The Big Daddy or Highland Fling. The farm shop is well stocked with local produce and a range of soups and meals prepared on the premises.
