Eating & Drinking Guide

The 2018 edition of The List's Eating & Drinking Guide is out now – only £7.95 (+p&p).

Look no further for a good square meal than the circular Rotunda, once the entrance to the Clyde tunnel. The venue’s view boasts a juxtaposition of old and new showcasing Glasgow through the ages, from the Finnieston Crane signalling an industrial past to the futuristic SSE Hydro’s UFO-like design. Inside, La Rotunda successfully delivers on Italy’s favourites of pizza, pasta and risotto. A grand spiral staircase acts as an imposing centrepiece under dim mood lighting. Along with the familiar Italian checklist, revel in some not-so-typical plates – roast pork doused in apple and sage butter, accompanied by crushed baby potatoes, roast onions and parsnip crisps, providing sweetness, complex textures and bite all in one mouthful. Subtle quirks add panache to traditional dishes – smoked cheese in lieu of parmesan provides earthy flavours to arancini, while chunks of amaretti biscuits give unexpected moments of crunch to the otherwise ultra-smooth tiramisù. Perhaps most surprising of all, all pastas, pizzas and desserts are made daily on-site – a commendable feat for a restaurant so cavernous and often busy with swarms of time-pressed concert-goers looking for a speedy turnaround.
