In business for over 100 years, the spacious shop has recently been refurbished and has a large butchery counter and a deli counter selling soups, ready meals, cooked meats and their own-made steak pies. They also rustle up their own recipe haggis, black pudding and sausages. Home delivery is available within five miles of the shop, and is free for orders over £35.
A traditional family butchers that’s been in business for more than a century, Gillespie’s enjoys a loyal local following, with queues frequently snaking out of the rather grand front door despite competition from a massive supermarket just over the road. Friendly, knowledgeable staff will advise on the best cut of Scotch beef or lamb for a recipe, while their own sausages, haggis and black pudding are well worth a detour to Anniesland. There’s a deli counter selling wholesome soups, steak pies and ready-made dishes to heat at home as well as cold cuts, and they’ll deliver within five miles. The sort of old-fashioned butchers where – to quote one satisfied customer – they’re still happy to give you a free bone for your dog.
