Photo of Tomatin Distillery

Based 1028 feet above sea level in the Monadhliath Mountains, just south of Inverness, Tomatin is one of the last distilleries in Scotland still to provide housing for its staff. Around 25 families live on the estate – some whole families work in the distillery, others are into their 5th generation of Tomatin employment. The water making up this particular uisge beatha comes from the Alt-na-Frith (Free Burn), eventually becoming one of the range of 12 to 30-year-old core single malts, the three blends – 12-year-old or 21-year-old Antiquary, or The Talisman – or the limited release bottlings, some with as few as 160 bottles produced. The distillery is open to visitors, with an information centre and wheelchair accessible tours all year round.
