Hood's Scottish Honey

Hood's Scottish Honey
Orme Cottage, High Street, Ormiston, East Lothian, EH35 5LN

Every act from the Scottish Parliament since its inception has been sealed by Hood’s beeswax, a fitting tribute to a small company started by George Hood that has been bottling honey since 1950. George was tutored by Willie Smith of Innerleithen, a revered apiarist who designed the hive used by the majority of today’s Scottish beekeepers, and George took over Willie's hives when he retired. The apiaries, now tended to by George’s son Stuart, include two of Smith's (home to the same strain of bee) and use equipment that has been there since the 1930s. Every sample of honey is personally tasted, then blended and mixed to best effect, before being bottled and labelled by hand.
