Thorntonhall Farm Ice Cream
John and Micki Henderson sell ice cream made from milk fresh from that morning’s milking on the gloriously named Meikle Dripps Farm, as well as fresh fruit sorbets and ice cream cakes. Don’t go looking for grass green mint choc chip: they don’t use artificial colours, stabilisers or emulsifiers in their ices, so it’s naturally white. There are no set opening hours, but 100ml and 500ml tubs can be bought from the farm – there’s generally someone about but call ahead if you’re travelling far.
From this unassuming farm just south of Glasgow comes fantastic ice cream that’s served at many of the top restaurants in the city. Every day, the milk that owners John and Mikki Henderson use is fresh from that morning's milking. No artificial colours, stabilisers or emulsifiers, though, so it’s naturally white – even the mint choc chip. They’ve also started pasteurizing milk every Friday, meaning some proper, non-homogenised good stuff might be available too (now that we’re allowed to drink whole milk again). There are no set opening hours, but 100ml and 500ml tubs can be bought from the farm (there’s generally someone about but call ahead if you’re travelling far) and you can see what flavours are currently available by checking their website.
