MacDonald Bros butchers in Pitlochry sell locally-sourced meat, and are especially proud of their Aberdeen Angus beef, sourced from the same two local farms for the last 40 years. They also offer wide ranges of other meats, including pork, lamb, chicken, duck, turkey, bacon, ham, venison, game and their own line of products – their sausage rolls have won the Scotch Pie Club's top award for the past three years running.
Current owner Rory MacDonald is the third generation of MacDonald to run the place, and among recent developments they've started an online shop, enabling them to deliver to customers all over the UK.
MacDonald Bros is a reassuringly traditional butcher, established back in 1928, selling venison from neighbouring estates as haunches and sausages, Perthshire lamb and locally farmed beef. The latter comes arrayed as joint, roasts, burgers, mince, old-school steaks such as ‘spalebone’ and whole ox tails tied neatly with twine, and you'll also find seasonal Perthshire game including partridge, mallard, pigeon and pheasant, along with rabbit in their well-stocked freezer. Rory MacDonald is the third generation of his family to run the butchery, which also bakes its own pies, bridies and quiches, smokes its own bacon and gammon, and houses a wee deli next door, with mail order on its website.
