Photo of Wheems Organic Farm

Mike Roberts has run the sensitively landscaped Wheems Farm since 1986. An ecological six-hectare smallholding, Wheems produces organic food for a local market. The farm buildings are 200 years old, and have been renovated using local, traditional and sustainable materials. Soil Association accredited, the smallholding grows a broad range of organic vegetables and fruit crops throughout the summer. Crops are grown undercover in a greenhouse and in a large polytunnel, and outside. There are free range chickens and geese for eggs, sheep (pets, rather than farm animals), and a small gallery of Roberts' late partner Christina Sargent's art - the farm is on Orkney's craft trail. Produce is sold direct from the farm and through local shops.
