Part of Scotland’s oldest inhabited house, the plant was originally part of an 18th century domestic brewery producing beer for Traquair’s residents. It fell out of use some time after 1800, and the equipment lay forgotten until 1965. Then Peter Maxwell Stuart, the 20th Laird of Traquair, restarted production, which is now at around 600–700 barrels a year. They specialise in Scottish styles of beer, including Traquair Bear, House and Jacobite ales.
