Katy Rodgers at Knockraich Farm
From an idyllic courtyard housing a café, gift shop, deli and soft furnishings business, Katy Rodgers has built up a thriving business, best known for artisan yoghurts from the family's sixty-strong herd of British Friesian cattle. The awards have come in thick and fast, including being nominated Best Product at the Scotland Food and Drink Excellence Awards 2012, and the crowdie listed in the Great Taste Awards' Top 50 Foods in Britain 2012 with three gold stars. The range of dairy products now includes plain and fruit yoghurt – tangy and fresh, rather than cloyingly sweet, like so many fruit yoghurts; yoghurt with fresh fruit compote; crème fraîche; frozen yoghurt and ice cream. You can find them in a wide array of independent shops and delis across the country, as well as Scottish branches of Waitrose – a trip to the source is highly recommended though, it's a stunning place.
