A Grassmarket institution, Lovecrumbs is true to its name offering sourdough grilled cheeses and creative cakes in a beautiful setting.
A Grassmarket institution, Lovecrumbs is café heaven. Exposed lightbulbs and the odd neon sign illuminate industrial columns, cascading plants, and charmingly mismatched tables and chairs. Its eclectic aesthetic is matched by an equally inviting menu entirely constructed around freshly baked breads and cakes. Grilled cheese is elevated with crusty sourdough bread and a slick of sharp mustard, but remains delectably gooey, while the open-face toasted sandwich of crushed peas sautéed in garlic and chilli is the perfect blend of fresh and filling. But it's the cakes that are the real standout. Beautifully presented under glass cake stands, Lovecrumbs offers at least five or six different bakes every day, including vegan and gluten-free options. The blackberry Victoria sponge is a delicious twist on a traditional favourite: moist, impressively tall, and with the sharp sweetness of the brambles, it’s a perfect slice of nostalgia.
