Gandolfi Fish to Go
This review is taken from the 2014 edition.
The little takeaway, all gleaming white tiles, at the side of their fish restaurant is a typically classy offering from Gandolfi. The bustling shared kitchen, theatrically revealed through the large ordering hatch, is responsible for the cooked-to-order carryouts, displaying a professional touch that elevates their suppers up to the top end. Nicely packaged, with a lemon wedge and pot of exceptionally creamy home-made tartare sauce, a haddock supper comes with a deep-brown, crispy beer batter and excellent, equally crisp chips. Other seasonal fish include pollock, plaice and mackerel, joined on an upscale menu by Cullen skink, Stornoway black pudding, oysters and even a whole lobster. If that's pushing the boat out, try the £4-a-pop street food, including fish finger rolls, salt and chilli prawns, and halloumi chips.
