Eating & Drinking Guide

The 2016 edition of The List's Eating & Drinking Guide is out now – only £5.95 (+p&p).

This review is taken from the 2015 edition.

Since its creation as a drinking den 130 years ago (though not always trading under its current name), Dukes has enjoyed an enviable history and can even claim to have hosted The Clash in 1985. Not bad for an 80-person capacity bar tucked inconspicuously behind the main drag of Argyle Street. In 2015 changes are planned for the venue as its kitchen transforms into something a little more edgy. From late spring, gourmet bratwurst will dominate the menu as well as a more flexible approach to eating adopted with the start of supper clubs and pop-up nights, beginning with a Bengali-themed event. Away from stomach-filling, there’s much to be enjoyed by way of live music. A pub quiz, open mic and jazz night all run once a week, and if the latest jam-packed Kate Bush homage is anything to go by, more regular tribute nights will feature on the schedule, too.

  • High point: A cosy nook set back from the hustle of Argyle Street
  • Low point: Toilets are a tight squeeze

Dukes is a sharp new bar close to the Kelvingrove Art Gallery. Offering brilliant premium draught lagers, Asahi Superdry and Budvar, and a great range of cocktails, Dukes has fast established itself as one of the West End's most popular bars. Serving excellent food at terrific prices day and night, come along and sample the laid-back atmosphere. Great music and friendly service guaranteed.
