The Glenturret Distillery – probably the oldest in Scotland – offers much to the visitor, from the award-winning Famous Grouse Experience to an extensive shop as well as a café and bar, both with wider appeal than as a mere pitstop for distillery tourers. Extensively refurbed in late 2012, it is a smart, modern and large café serving up a variety of drinks, snacks, hot meals and home-made cakes via the assisted self-serve set-up. From sandwiches and children's boxes to baked potatoes, haggis, neeps and tatties and usually a one-pot stew or oven-baked dish, the food can be enjoyed with pleasing views of the surrounding woodland around the River Turret that meanders past. There's also an al fresco terrace for when the weather's good, or a cosy fireplace near the bar area for warming the toes when it's dreich – helped by a dram of their famous amber, of course.
