Colourful homestyle café bringing quality homemade breakfasts, lunches, coffee and cake to Newhaven.

Eating & Drinking Guide

The 2017 edition of The List's Eating & Drinking Guide is out now – only £5.95 (+p&p).

This homestyle cafe tends to fill up fast at weekends, with neighbours from Newhaven and Leith dropping in for a pile of fluffy pancakes and crispy bacon, a bowl of granola and yoghurt, or a fry up served on a chintzy china plate. The decor is not striving for anything cutting edge-hipster or minimal, it’s much more shabby-chic retro, with coloured bunting draped over the room, a stack of vinyl for sale in the corner, and vintage bric-a-brac dotted around the place. Old coffee table books from the 70s and 80s are fun to flick through while you wait for your fresh fruit smoothie/artisan coffee/mug of builder’s tea to be brought over, and the free wifi is worth remembering if you’re needing a spot for doing some work. The cakes are recommended, and come in surprisingly giant portions – After Eight cake, pear, cardamon and Golden Syrup sponge or chocolate chip scones are just some of the treats they might be baking in their open plan kitchen. An unpretentious neighbourhood spot, run by a smiley and welcoming team.
