Eating & Drinking Guide

The 2018/19 edition of The List's Eating & Drinking Guide is out now – only £7.95 (+p&p).

The myriad of Glasgow’s eateries delivering decent enough quick bites can easily merge into one kaleidoscopic snack bar continuum. Barburrito, however, stands out for delivering the eponymous Mexican street food with singular skill. The franchise with a UK-wide presence occupies two central spots in Glasgow – one in Hope Street and another on the corner of George Square. The design takes inspiration from what seems to be a mandatory stylebook for Central American eateries: a vibrant colour scheme with Latin pop in the background. But it’s the food that sets Barburrito ahead of the curve. No run-of-the-mill red sauce mash here – the toppings are well presented and appealing, from the full-flavour rice to a variety of colourful bean mixtures with peppers and tomatoes, to the fleshy, spicy mushrooms. There is the usual range of burrito fillings – pulled pork, grilled chicken, shredded beef, steak and vegetarian – that are refreshingly wholesome and well delivered. All neatly wrapped up in a tightly sealed warm wheat tortilla, that seems to weigh like an admirable two-course meal.
