Eating & Drinking Guide

The 2019/20 edition of The List's Eating & Drinking Guide is out now – only £5.95 (+p&p).

Pekoe Tea import top quality tea from around the world, supplying businesses across Edinburgh as well as this, their own Tollcross teahouse. With over 100 varieties, the choice can seem overwhelming but if you don’t know your oolong from your matcha, knowledgeable staff are on hand to advise. The Russian Caravan tea is full flavoured but refreshing and drunk without milk it tastes less tannic than you might expect. Food offerings are kept to a minimum but are good quality, using a variety of local businesses including buttery shortbread from Pinnies & Poppyseeds. A member of the Ethical Tea Partnership, Pekoe are focusing on direct trade and building relationships with growers around the globe. In keeping with their sustainable ethos, Dear Green coffee and Chocolate Tree hot chocolate are also available for the non-tea drinker. As well as selling designer teapots and ephemera, they hold regular tastings and occasional talks from industry experts.

  • High point: Cute oasis of calm in Tollcross
  • Low point: If builders with two sugars is your thing, it might not be for you
  • Notable dish: Russian Caravan tea
