The Lochinver Larder
Famous for its eclectic array of homemade pies, the Lochinver Larder has garnered a good many fans over the years. So much so that pies can now be sent by post to anywhere in mainland Britain – each week the business dispatches parcels to places as far apart as Thurso and Devon. Venison is the most popular filling, but the options run from chestnut mushroom and red wine through smoked haddock to chicken curry – and there are a number of sweet pies on offer too. The pastry-shy can opt for local seafood or steak instead from the long daytime and evening menus, and there's always a vegetarian option. Pies are also available to take away, and there's a separate 'heat away' menu of vacuum-packed ready meals including chicken in chorizo sauce, and slow-braised beef bourguignon.
