The Hare & Hounds has become a Mecca for food lovers in Bedfordshire and beyond, looking for great food in warm, relaxing and welcoming surroundings. Situated in the beautiful village of Old Warden, near Biggleswade, the Hare & Hounds is run by Jane Hasler and Jago Hurt. Jane and Jago met while working at another pub nearby and decided they wanted their own operation. Since taking over, they have never looked back. From an unremarkable village pub, Jane and Jago have transformed the Hare & Hounds into a busy, welcoming, high quality gastro pub with reputation for food that is unmatched in this area. With Jago in the kitchen and Jane working front of house, the pub has won awards for the quality of its operation and gained rave reviews in the likes of Good Pub Guide, which named it best dinning pub in Bedfordshire 2004. The pub has also won the Charles Wells Eagle Star Award for the Best Gastro pub two years running.

The couple's commitment to the Hare & Hounds both financial and in the terms of time and hard work is evident from the expensive refurbishment they have just carried out. Jane and Jago pride themselves on using only good quality ingredients and offering a regularly changing menu. Knowing where the food comes from is very important so where possible they try to source locally. 'We buy our pork from a local pig breeder, our fruit and vegetables come from market farms in the area, and we get our game from local shoots. We use only Scotch Beef supplied from a lcoal butcher sourced by Mathers Black Gold and have a daily delivery of fish from Billinsgate. We are committed to using 'fresh' ingredients and product that is in season. 'Seasonality' of food is something that we promote very strongly. We use summer berries when they are available rather than frozen. When mussels come into season we use them on the menu too. The asparagus season is exciting as we get that locally.

'The menu changes regularly - although not so regularly that people don't have the chance to try it. We also offer a separate bar food menu, available throughout which is a constant source of surprise to all our diners. The name and reputation of the Hare & Hounds is spreading far and wide. Our reputation has been carefully nurtured over time and we've been fortunate to be able to let that happen naturally rather than have to go out there and bang the drum.'
