Fisher & Donaldson Café Tearoom
Café and factory for the much-loved traditional bakery and chocolatiers, supplying eight other F&D branches, cafes and concessions.
What used to be the MacKinnon (of Drambuie) family’s luxury car garage is now a large tearoom and shop, one long side dominated by a multicoloured array of F&D confectionery. Chocolates at one end – see the chocolatier making them – stovies and soup at the other, fudge doughnuts, steak pies and sticky buns to boggle the imagination in between. Behind the counter is where the baking happens, almost entirely by hand. Also out of sight above you is the most obvious embodiment of the company’s efforts to reduce carbon consumption: enough solar panels to pump out over 1000kw of power each month. Fife – and, indeed, one of Scotland’s – best-known craft bakers, Fisher & Donaldson have shops in St Andrews, Cupar and Dundee, as well as concessions in Scotmid in Edinburgh’s Bruntsfield and Greens of Markinch.

From Fife to Oman: well travelled fudge doughnuts21 Jun 2012
Fisher & Donaldson's doughnuts were an RAF troops' dream come true
Most of us treat our colleagues by bringing a packet of biscuits into the office - for one RAF squadron leader, getting a box of doughnuts to work required a plane, a 4x4 and a boat.
