It's a carnivorous carnival at this Argentinian steak house, right in the heart of student-central Newington.
After a steak? Los Argentinos could be the joint for you. This Argentinian restaurant focuses on all things carne and will cook you a slab of beef – ribeye, rump, sirloin or fillet – to order. It is beautiful in its simplicity and very much focused on ensuring your meat is just as you want it. You can choose from a petite 225 grams or go to town on a 400 gram beast; take your steak unadorned save for the black criss-cross of the grill or go with garlic, pepper, cream or mushroom sauce. Either way homemade chimichurri sauce, sharp and mildly spiced, sits on the table to accompany your meat. There are options of grilled chicken or fish if you do decide to go off-piste and sensibly, sides and starters are simple, flavour-filled morsels; chorizo is vibrantly pink, with a sweet sticky BBQ sauce, delightfully caramelised from the grill, while corn on the cob and baked potatoes are all smothered in lashings of butter. Desserts are a little perfunctory and a curiously American affair (NY cheesecake and sundaes), but don’t despair: your belly will be full.
