Bo'Vine Meats and Wines
Classy, sleek, Hilton-based steakhouse with contemporary design features, Perthshire steaks, prettily presented dishes and fine wines.
When opening in 2010, Bo’Vine added an alluring touch of class to Byres Road. Eight years on and perhaps a little of its exclusive feel has been lost; however, it’s still popular – especially thanks to some good-value dining deals. One side of the restaurant is like a 1930s cruise liner, the other is more spacious with big booths looking like luxurious, cream leather covered waltzer cars – without any moving parts, of course. An impressive dry-stane dyke like wall, cow-hide pillars and a contemporary, stylish sculpture of a cow’s head, all nod to Bo’Vine’s focal point: the extensive menu of delicious cuts of grass-fed, Perthshire beef. Go wild with the wonderful sides, like creamed spinach or a perfect pot of creamy dauphinoise potatoes. A starter of pigeon breast with haggis and pickled mushrooms arrives looking like a piece of modern art, with jus smeared passionately across the plate. The taste lacks the je ne sais quoi that the description and presentation suggest it might deliver; however, like everything else, it’s still very good. Fine wines come served in beautiful, goldfish-bowl like glasses, and lovely, charismatic staff all add to the classy ambience of this lush restaurant.
