The Shetland Fudge Company
Family business specialising in handmade confectionery and white chocolate ‘Puffin Poo’, sold online and from their shop.
Passing from one family to another, Shetland Fudge was taken over by Nicola and Magnus Johnston in 2014. They have continued hand-making fudge, tablet and confectionery from scratch on the remote Shetland Islands, to be sold online and from their Esplanade shop. Tablet and truffle fudge are made in a range of flavours, and newly developed gourmet marshmallows bear no resemblance to commercial ones: small batches of billowy sweetness come in black forest, strawberry and salted caramel, among other flavours. New, too, is the hot chocolate – four flavours of pure chocolate flakes include a vodka-infused option. Peerie Nips (meaning a wee dram) are familiar from the existing range: chocolate shot glasses of liqueur-spiked ganache in 21 flavours including passionfruit, black pepper & sea salt and Sheep Dip whisky. Their signature product, however, is 'Puffin Poo', made with white Belgian chocolate, crisped rice, marshmallow and hand-rolled in coconut. Order fudge online and it will be handmade fresh for delivery. Moving away from confectionery, their range of preserves includes strawberry and champagne jam, and Simmer Dim marmalade with a pep of gin: these can be packaged up with their other products and locally made biscuits for a combination of gift hampers.
