Hugh Grierson Organic
Hugh and Sascha Grierson are committed organic farmers and active participants in the local food scene. Across approximately 1000 acres between Perth and Crieff they farm pure-bred Aberdeen Angus cattle, lamb, rare-breed pork and, unusually in Scotland, a significant part of their business is in chicken for both meat and eggs. Their enthusiasm extends to a series of cooking tips and recipes on the website alongside a refreshingly forthright blog and plenty of social media engagement, with on-farm events and school visits also taking place during the year. In 2013 the Griersons joined forces with Peelham Farm to form the Saltire Organic Meat Company, the extra volume available making it easier to supply large-scale foodservice contracts with organic beef. Buy Grierson meat online, at Edinburgh Farmers' Market, or from the on-farm butchery on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Fridays between 8am–4pm. Beside the butchery is a converted trailer that's always open for honesty-box sales of their eggs and freezer meat.
