Established in 2001, the compact Cairngorms Brewery has built a far-reaching reputation as one of Scotland’s better craft breweries. With only fifteen staff it’s recently upgraded to a twenty-barrel system to cope with demand for its range of eight permanent ales, including the continental style Cairngorm Gold, the strongly flavoured Wildcat amber ale and Trade Winds, which uses elderflower and perle hops in the mash for a lighter taste, as well as a range of seasonal brews. Set in the Cairngorms National Park, it’s also a destination in its own right, with a shop selling beers, merchandise memorabilia and organising regular brewery tours.
