With Ullapool having long been a favourite holiday spot for Alan and Alex Doherty, in 2002 they upped sticks from England to take over this bakehouse situated on the shore of Loch Broom. Initially starting out with a small range of traditional breads such as ryes and sourdoughs, they’ve expanded that offering in the intervening decade. They now produce around 30 different breads, made fresh from scratch each day using stone-ground Scottish oatmeal, rye and wheat, including novel specialty breads like stilton and cranberry or raisin and rosemary, plus a range of flavoured oatcakes and shortbreads. As well as supplying local stores and restaurants, they’re regulars at a number of Highland farmers' markets and other events.
