S Collins and Son
The Collins family has run this Muirhead butcher's shop since the 50s, with current boss Stewart Collins the third generation to be in charge. Under his management they were declared 2012 Scottish Butcher's Shop of the Year, and they also took home a fistful of golds at the Q Guild's 2012 Smithfield Awards, so clearly they're doing something right, and customers rave about the quality of the meat and the friendly service.
Besides the wide range of beef and lamb from Morgan's Farms in Glenboig and pork from Ayrshire, they also offer veal, venison, bacon, cooked meats, chicken, goose and fish, and a wide range of their own products including the Sausage Swirl, an unholy-sounding marriage of the sausage roll with the Danish pastry. On a more healthy note, and unusually for a butcher, they have a low-fat Slimming Range of burgers, sausages, lean mince and meats in prepared sauces.

Carefully sourced meat is on display alongside a vast range of ready meals and other oven-ready items, with video screens displaying various behind-the-scenes and marketing material while staff are both numerous and cheery. Along with meat products you can pick up plenty of other useful items from sauces and dressings to pastries and takeaway coffee. They have an online store with delivery or click-and-collect options.
