Christie the Butcher
One of three Christie the Butcher branches (the other two being in Hardgate and Broomhill, also in Glasgow) owned by Alex Christie, they are stocked with hand-made pies, haggis, sausages and ready meals from the central factory, in turn stocked with beef from the family farm. With a fine display of fruit and veg from Glasgow fruit market, they also sell seasonal game. Seasonal lamb comes from Gavinburn farm in Old Kilpatrick and from other farms in west central Scotland the rest of the year. A range of own-label jams, soups and sauces is sold in the three branches, and delivery can be arranged.
Alex Christie’s family firm goes out of its way to offer a little more than you’d expect of a traditional butchers. With three shops on the Western fringes of Glasgow (in Bearsden, Hardgate and Broomhill), Christies operate a central factory turning our hand-made pies, sausages and ready meals, and there’s an own-label range of jams, soups and sauces. Much of the beef comes from the Christies’ own farm, and Spring lamb is supplied by Gavinburn Farm in nearby Old Kilpatrick. When they do have to go beyond their own doorstep, Christies still stick to farms within west Central Scotland. Scottish game is sold in season, and there’s even some fruit and veg from Glasgow’s wholesale market to complete your meal.
