Orkney Isles Preserves
Orkney Isles' selection of preserves means that a visit to the island can easily result in overweight luggage on the way home. Jams, marmalades, chutneys and a wonderful cider and honey wholegrain mustard are made from a converted bothy on the island of Shapinsay, a short ferry journey out of Kirkwall harbour. Hand-made using renewable energy from their own wind turbine, the selection is wide – summer fruits, chilli jam and whisky marmalade are three examples from over thirty – and the distinctive hexagonal jars all bear striking photos of the local scenery. They are sold throughout Orkney, and at the Judith Glue shops in Kirkwall and Inverness.
