Braithwaite’s is one of those odd little places that really add a lot to a city’s character. A coffee and tea merchants, it dates back to the middle of the nineteenth century, and it remains a thriving business to this day. Selling a massive range of coffees and teas as well as a whole host of drinking paraphernalia, Braithwaite’s also roast their beans daily on the premises according to an age-old family recipe. The tiny wood-panelled room is worth visiting, if only for the smell, but don’t be intimidated, they dish out expert advice for the novice coffee or tea drinker as well.
Dundee's oldest shop has been selling fine teas and coffees since 1868, moving to its Castle Street premises in 1932, but taking the original Victorian interior to be rebuilt. The aroma inside is heady and the people in this still family-run shop are as knowledgeable about the world's teas and coffees as you're likely to find. As well as freshly ground coffee and loose tea, there are also tea and coffee sets for sale.
