Universally known as Mennie’s after a former landlady who ran the place for over half a century, this listed Edwardian pub is an institution of the city’s West End and a fantastic example of a historical pub that remains bang up to date. The L-shaped bar and two small lounges retain all the original fixtures and fittings, creating an unbeatably welcoming atmosphere, and the always busy bar serves a great range of CAMRA-approved ales, hundreds of single malt whiskies and a surprising range of wines into the bargain. If it’s an exemplary traditional Scottish pub experience you’re after, look no further.

The Speedwell Bar is this Dundee institution's Sunday name. To all who know and love it, it's Mennies, named for the landlady, Mrs Mennie, who ran it for around 50 years and had the personality to match its incredible interior. The dark mahogany and etched-glass screens are the perfect backdrop to a bar serving a wide selection of beers and more than 100 single malts. There are crisps and nuts on offer but no food as such.
