Eating & Drinking Guide

The 2018 edition of The List's Eating & Drinking Guide is out now – only £7.95 (+p&p).

Tapas make a flexible, sociable break from shopping, so Barça’s location in Princes Square is a natural fit. And while other eating brands have come and gone in this upmarket city centre mall, the Spanish-themed bar and restaurant’s 12 years in business indicates a successful formula. There’s room inside for about a hundred people, but most customers opt to sit out on the (internal) terrace, where they can get a good look at the comings and goings in the atrium below. The menu here looks familiar at first sight, but many dishes come with unexpected twists – pinchos de pollo, for example, are flavoured with fairly un-Spanish lime, coriander and yoghurt, and the lamb with apricots is more North African than this side of the Med. As much about convivial atmosphere and the odd tipple as it is about food, Barça boasts no less than six different cavas (including one that’s alcohol-free) plus a good choice of glamorous cocktails. There’s also regular salsa dancing, including classes for complete beginners.
