The stylish packaging of this creative range of artisanal chocolates is artwork in itself: the hot chocolate tins will be kept long after the Valrhona cocoa within has been sipped away (would you prefer that flavoured with lemongrass or salted caramel?). Hand-tempered bars are made just across Edinburgh in Summerhall, where chocolate-making classes are held to teach the theory and practice of chocolate making. Over in the Stockbridge shop, ‘connoisseur’ tasting evenings will give satisfaction to those who just can't get enough. Retro-heaven dark chocolate gingers rub shoulders with stunningly boxed truffle collections and a rainbow of bar flavours including haggis spice and gin and tonic. Ethical inclinations have been retained since Coco changed hands in 2014; there’s a sizeable organic range, and chocolate is single origin.
