An Old Town coffee bar and sandwich shop specialising in fresh brownies, pancakes and takeaway sandwiches

Eating & Drinking Guide

The 2019/20 edition of The List's Eating & Drinking Guide is out now – only £5.95 (+p&p).

This sandwich shop on the street leading down off the High Street towards the Mound is popular with tourists, primarily because of its central location. You’ll spot it easily thanks to the painted black and white zebra outside, which leads you towards various homemade white chocolate brownies, blueberry pancakes and Oreo cupcakes. For the savoury-toothed there are filled bagels, crunchy baguette sandwiches, cheese nachos and full Scottish breakfasts from from 9am–5pm during the week, and a bit later during the weekends. It's a small place so space is tight, but if you can find room on the old church pew or one of the wooden kitchen chairs, it’s a friendly spot to sit in. They also do a rich, delicious hot chocolate and are pretty excellent when it comes to designing bears to decorate the top.
