Dennistoun diner serving Roman-style pizza slices – rectangular, airy dough and lots of inventive toppings.

Eating & Drinking Guide

The 2019/20 edition of The List's Eating & Drinking Guide is out now – only £5.95 (+p&p).

The young guns behind Baked are on a mission to bring the authentic thick- based, hand-held pizzas of Rome to Glasgow – served up with a view of the Tennent’s Brewery rather than the Trevi Fountain. The bubbly dough is proved in-house for 72 hours to create a unique base that’s sturdy enough to hold a barrage of toppings while being unexpectedly light and crisp. Each pizza is sold by the square slice, so you can either grab one for an incredibly affordable lunch or mix-and-match a feast with your friends. Flavours change with the seasons and what imported goodies the creative chefs can get their hands on, but expect a stellar margherita – generous with the fior di latte and fresh basil – alongside the likes of cauliflower and broccoli with a savoury anchovy crust, and a novel twist on trendy pasta dish cacio e pepe, with parmesan and stracchino cheeses. There’s a brief selection of sides, including deftly fried arancini with ox cheek ragu, but why not round things off with one final round of dough, this time with layers of sweet Nutella?

BAKED pizza al taglio – pizzeria specialising in pizza al taglio alla Romana (Roman sheet pan pizza).

The pizza dough is super light and crispy. The pizza is baked as a large rectangular pie then cut to order and sold by the slice. Toppings include cured meats and cheeses imported direct from Italy alongside fresh seasonal fruits and vegetables. The pizza is sold from a display case which is split into 3 sections; Vegan, Vegetarian and Meats/Fish. There are always multiple varieties available to choose from in each section. Also on the menu are freshly made Supplì and Arancini which are hand made and served in the classic Roman style. As for beverages there are a large range of Italian soft drinks as well as espresso based coffee options.

The restaurant has a relaxed and comfortable ambience where you can sit in or take away at your leisure, even bring your own bottle (BYOB) without corkage charges. Dog friendly, high chairs and baby change facilities also.
