The 2019/20 edition of The List's Eating & Drinking Guide is out now – only £5.95 (+p&p).
It shouldn’t be forgotten amid the Finnieston fanfare of late that the area is a community of local residents as well as food tourists. The Taphouse feels as much a neighbourhood bar as, well, the Neighbourhood bar that went before it for many years. The same owner did a refurb and rebrand in 2017 – giving the place a now-familiar chunky wood, brickwork, industrial stylings look – yet continued on with the same focus on dependable, accessible offerings. It’s a fairly boxy corner venue, with a handful of draughts at the compact bar, with its own light Taphouse Lager, made by Belhaven. It’s any easy-going brew that suits the menu of burgers, pizzas and hot dogs. Food is all well executed, if a bit fussily delivered on boards and trays and baskets, making the enjoyable stacked-up house burger become a logistical challenge involving lots of juggling of food and tableware.
