Eating & Drinking Guide

The 2016 edition of The List's Eating & Drinking Guide is out now – only £5.95 (+p&p).

This review is taken from the 2011 edition.

Note: as of summer 2012 the Horseshoe Inn is under new ownership and management. Just the right side of Peebles to be handy from Edinburgh’s bypass the Horseshoe Inn still feels very much the historic coaching inn. Well executed comfort food is the order of the day in the cosy bar/bistro with pork belly and chicken curry warming up the menu but in the adjacent Bardoulet’s Restaurant, wonders are afoot. Frenchman Patrick Bardoulet came to Eddleston from his first kitchen stint near Paris by way of Ireland, Cyprus and Denmark. En route he honed smooth culinary skills. West Coast crab is perfectly lifted with a citrus crust and sits alongside a classic cheese soufflé to start. Best of Borders beef served up with braised oxtail is a fine signature dish. Desserts are equally decadent with the assiette allowing diners to sample all four sweet options. If that assiette finishes you off – and it may well do – they have eight chic bedrooms.

The Larder

Included in our Larder listings – order print copies of our national (pub. 2010) and regional guides.

The Horseshoe Inn is a restaurant with rooms in the sleepy village of Eddleston, just five miles north of the Royal Burgh of Peebles and just 20 miles south of Scotland’s capital city, Edinburgh.

The Horseshoe Inn was originally a Blacksmith’s smiddy while the village’s former Victorian Primary School has been converted into eight individually decorated, luxuriously appointed bedrooms.

In 2006, The Horseshoe Inn was awarded 2 AA Rosettes while in 2007, we were also awarded 4 stars (Highly Commended by the AA) for our accommodation and named AA Restaurant of the Year for Scotland 2007-08. In 2009, we were awarded an EatScotland Gold Award.

There are two dining options available at The Horseshoe Inn, the Restaurant and Bistro. Dishes often change daily, the Restaurant offers an a la carte dinner at £40 the Bistro offers main courses from £9.95.
