Eating & Drinking Guide

The 2018/19 edition of The List's Eating & Drinking Guide is out now – only £7.95 (+p&p).

Jamie Oliver is spied at every turn: surveying the kitchen as chefs rustle up his much-loved recipes, taking care of little ones with organic kid’s grub, and peeking out from an ethically conscious menu. The vast, two-level expanse houses hundreds, meaning that inside thunders with chatter. Staff whizz by sporting monstrous meat planks, three-people wide, while others do the limbo to avoid collision. Surprising twists for a nation-wide chain decorate the menu – brunch buffs will adore the smashed avocado and crab bruschetta, while less adventurous can indulge in fluffy pillows of oozy cheese croquettes. Specials herald the likes of melt-in-the-mouth cod, drizzled in crab sauce and served alongside crab arancini – an ingenious reinvention. Pasta is made on-site every day, with the mushroom ravioli a particular standout; sauce consistency is thick thanks to the fontal and porcini mushrooms, while the ravioli itself is undoubtedly fresh and a delight to sink teeth into. Above all, it's genuinely commendable to see a restaurant of such scale truly adhere to ethical mantras, successfully carrying through nutritional value, traceability and sustainability to every plate.

A partnership between Jamie Oliver and his Italian mentor, chef Gennaro Contaldo, Jamie's Italian has won thousands of fans for its delicious and affordable food since launching their first restaurant in Oxford in May 2008. The Jamie's Italian menu is based on dishes you'd find people eating all over Italy, made with care but delivered without fuss. The family-friendly restaurants are all about serving up rustic, Italian food made using the best possible ingredients, plus fresh pasta that’s made on-site every day, and an award-winning children's menu, too.

This landmark site on George Square is one of their most stylish conversions yet, located in the grand old GPO building. Jamie's Italian Glasgow is always buzzing and comes complete with a beautiful bar area that's perfect for a pre- or post-dinner cocktail. The restaurant is perfect for all occasions from a quick business lunch or a family dinner to a special celebration. The cosy downstairs area is the ideal space for a function too and can hold up to 50 diners.
