Eating & Drinking Guide

The 2019 edition of The List's Eating & Drinking Guide is out now – only £5.95 (+p&p).

The celebrity chef’s face is absent from the décor, but Jamie’s values strongly influence the approach here. Kids are treated like kings with wholesome meals scaled for big or little appetites, while the grown-up menu has an emphasis on traceability and high-welfare food. The fish is Scottish and sustainable, meat comes from named farms and the pasta is made daily in-house. Given the care taken in sourcing the raw ingredients, it’s right that the kitchen treats them with enthusiastic respect, turning out flavoursome and complex dishes that take a step or two off the usual beaten path. Handmade wooden planks carry a range of artisanal antipasti, gnocchi partners ox cheek in a rich chianti and rosemary ragu, and chicken breast turns up the heat with its tomato, ’nduja, olive and caper sauce. There’s an appealing list of ‘own label’ wines from selected producers and tempting bar snacks such as ravioli fritti or olives on ice to accompany. Service is top-notch, and special care is taken to accommodate allergies and dietary requirements. There are also gluten-free and vegan menus.

A partnership between Jamie Oliver and his Italian mentor, chef Gennaro Contaldo, Jamie's Italian has won thousands of fans for its delicious and affordable food since launching their first restaurant in Oxford in May 2008. The Jamie's Italian menu is based on dishes you'd find people eating all over Italy, made with care but delivered without fuss. The family-friendly restaurants are all about serving up rustic, Italian food made using the best possible ingredients, plus fresh pasta that’s made on-site every day, and an award-winning children's menu, too.

This landmark site on George Square is one of their most stylish conversions yet, located in the grand old GPO building. Jamie's Italian Glasgow is always buzzing and comes complete with a beautiful bar area that's perfect for a pre- or post-dinner cocktail. The restaurant is perfect for all occasions from a quick business lunch or a family dinner to a special celebration. The cosy downstairs area is the ideal space for a function too and can hold up to 50 diners.
