Taste of Italy
Bustling all-day eatery, handy for the Playhouse, with a cheery outlook and simply prepared, excellent value food.
It’s hard not to love Taste of Italy, even if they don't get your order right. In this fast-paced Italian diner mishap and confusion is part of the joy, but it’s all done with such friendliness and good grace you won’t complain. You can’t book, so turn up and squeeze onto a high stool by the window, or a wee Formica-topped table at the back. A thick flavoursome arancino vegetariano, packed full of spinach and cheese, is a popular starter. The pizzas include classics such as a capricciosa, which while not sprinkled with as good-quality ingredients as some of the pricier Italians down the Walk, is still remarkably tasty. All the popular pasta dishes are on offer and what the tagliatelle al pesto lacks in pine nuts it makes up for in sheer volume and pesto-ness. A seductively sweet raspberry and white chocolate sundae comes topped with fresh cream, and a wafer roll and fan. All this can be had for around £15 which makes paying almost a pleasure.
