Eating & Drinking Guide

This review is taken from the 2015 edition.

This bustling, well-staffed restaurant makes eating Italian in central Glasgow a truly affordable pleasure whether you want a lunch deal, piccolino-style bar snacks or an à la carte treat. Part of Glasgow’s established Fiorentina group, Mediterraneo is strategically situated at the junction of Ingram Street and Glassford Street and ideally placed for shoppers, workers, tourists and theatregoers alike. The excellent-value fixed-price lunchtime and early evening menus rotate over the month on a weekly basis and include such delights as pork medallions in a tangy wine, cream and mushroom sauce or salmon in a cream, tomato and basil sauce with seasonal vegetables, as well as pastas and pizzas to suit every taste. The à la carte menu offers generous starters such as king scallops seared to perfection with a buttery garlic, white wine and lemon sauce, while mains are generous with a range of unusual veal and pasta dishes including the fiery spaghetti al capone with garlic, tomato, chilli and spicy Italian meatballs. Although it is best to book at busy times, staff will always try courteously to locate a table.
