Takeaway review
Zen Kitchen boasts a pan-Asian menu helpfully annotated with symbols indicating country of origin, spiciness and whether it contains nuts. Stick to one cuisine, or mix’n’match across cultures. The creamy sauce with Malay Panggang chicken is disappointingly on the bland side, but mixed seafood with ginger and spring onions is well-flavoured with a satisfying amount of squid in the mix and big, sweet slices of ginger. A side of Vietnamese lemongrass vegetables wins plus points for taste – the veg have crunch and bite, while deep-fried sweet potato is crisp and provides a good contrast in texture to the other dishes. For dessert, you can try Malay steamed bun – a rich, sweet treat, a bit like syrup sponge.

Eating & Drinking Guide

The 2016 edition of The List's Eating & Drinking Guide is out now – only £5.95 (+p&p).

This review is taken from the 2013 edition.

Zen kitchen serves up unique pan-Asian cuisine. The premises are bright and sleekly designed and the well-laid out menu outlines cooking times, spice levels and potential allergies as well as identifying the origin of each dish. The menu includes small bites, noodles, rices, curries and various house specialities. Of these, the shredded sesame beef is crisp and tangy while a Thai-style satay has tender meat in a well-balanced sauce. With no added colouring, MSG or preservatives the food is fresh and the flavours are vibrant. On weekday lunchtimes there are daily 'lunchbox' specials; boxes chosen from a small buffet selection.
