A homely alpine cuisine themed restaurant and guest house with abundant charms based in a big old Victorian Manor just outside Crieff town centre.

The 2019/20 edition of The List's Eating & Drinking Guide is out now – only £5.95 (+p&p).
Authentic home-style cooking from a French chef producing simple bistro fare with Scottish ingredients. Traditional favourites, such as French onion soup and ratatouille feature, but a cheese fondue with wild mushrooms reveals chef Yannick Grospellier's regional alpine heritage.

Listed in the Perthshire Larder – order a print copy (free + p&p).
Formerly a chef for Malmaison and Hotel du Vin in Edinburgh, Frenchman Yannick Grospellier and his Scottish wife Shari have run this alpine cuisine themed restaurant and guest house based in a big old Victorian Manor just outside Crieff town centre with real personality since 2008, and turned it into a local institution. Legend of Yann’s steak frites travel far and wide across the Perthshire countryside and beyond – but before we get to that, a drink first in the lounge on a battered old Chesterfield, followed by savoury popcorn nibbles and an excellent starter of asparagus and goats' cheese tart with a walnut dressing. Now, about that steak – a lean, tender 28-day dried rib-eye cut served with fries or dauphinoise potatoes and peppercorn sauce. Follow it with apple crumble made with fruit picked from Glenearn House’s own garden. With the '5 à 7 chez Yann' discounted early-dining menu recently added, running alongside a very reasonably priced a la carte, many more new converts to this homely restaurant’s abundant charms will be made yet.
