Eating & Drinking Guide

InDulge sits on the ‘Lang Toon’ of Auchterarder’s 1.5 mile-long high street in the Ochil foothills. The name is a first clue to this popular café's breakfasts, lunches and snacks. The décor is light and welcoming with cream painted wood walls, leather booths and sanded, chunky tables, and smooth jazz on the radio. Co-owners Amanda Young and Colin McNicoll, a financier before becoming the chef, know what people want, and give it to them in abundance. Friendly waiting staff recite classy coffees and teas and luscious sounding ingredients of up to ten home-baked cakes, decorated lavishly to tantalise the eye, including plum cinnamon, coconut raspberry jam, and yoghurt, dark chocolate, spiced syrup, ginger mint toffee and walnut sauce. The theme continues on the counter top, where ornate glass domes hold tiffin slices, raspberry brownies and biscuits. Savoury treats include yummy looking rustic quiches, a meat loaf with Dunsyre Blue cheese, and a vegetable pâté of roasted butternut squash, red onion, sweetcorn, toasted almond, chilli and garlic. The highly original, quirky menu reflects a large measure of creativity in the kitchen – as do the daily changing blackboard specials of soup, bagels, burgers and other ‘bits & bobs’, alongside classic salads, sarnies, paninis and fillers.

Husband and wife team Neil and Amanda McNicoll offer ‘food for the soul’ in their licensed café bistro. So passionate are they about top quality ingredients that they will often spend their Sundays scouring the country for them. Seasonality is key with homemade, wholesome cuisine and some modern twists offered via a menu, cabinet and specials board. Breakfast options are served until 11.30am, then light lunch options of daily changing quiches, tortillas, sandwiches and salads are complimented by the inDulge fillers which include their own burgers. You'll find cake here too, freshly ground coffee and a range of whole leaf teas, rough cut herbs and flowers via the Tea Forte range. It's also a nice stop to pick up a gift with a range of soaps, body creams, jewellery and handmade cards available.
