Eating & Drinking Guide

The 2016 edition of The List's Eating & Drinking Guide is out now – only £5.95 (+p&p).

This review is taken from the 2011 edition.

Occupying a prime spot overlooking Victoria Dock and part of Dundee’s Apex Hotel, Metro is classy, uncluttered and bright, thanks to a wall-length window which allows for views of the gently lapping waves. A friendly welcome awaits from genial, efficient staff. The food is beautifully presented, a trait which is mirrored in taste. A starter of smooth, rich chicken parfait is complemented by a sweet plum and apple chutney, while teriyaki marinated pork is accompanied by thick egg noodles and a flavourful spicy sauce. What’s more, portions are very generous and the atmosphere is relaxed, making it the perfect dockside environment to linger over a long lunch.

Metro offers more atmosphere and style than the usual hotel restaurant. Looking out over the historic dock area, it's airy and modern without being sterile. The menu offers plenty of choice and has a fine-dining side as well as its standard bistro offering of burgers, pasta and salads. Although it's part of a chain of hotels, it also provides a welcome nod to its location with a fine Dundee marmalade tart.

A rich, warm colour scheme and a stunning double-height space makes the Metro a bright yet intimate restaurant with breathtaking views over the Dundee quayside. Conveniently situated in the Apex City Quay Hotel, this modern brasserie serves straightforward food in a friendly, but never overbearing setting. In this most stylish Dundee restaurant, the Metro Brasserie menu is internationally influenced, with dishes prepared by an award-winning team under the management of Head Chef Bruce Price, triple winner of Scottish Chef of the Year. Even though you are dining in Dundee, you can look forward to tasting cuisine from Italy, South America and the Pacific Rim - Not to mention some fantastic recipes from Scotland itself!
