With over 100 restaurants in the UK, Zizzi is a growing chain, but changing specials and quirky touches such as the staff photograph on the menu make for a distinct dining experience. Situated on the top terrace in Princes Square, Zizzi takes full advantage of its enviable location. Terrace tables feel as close to alfresco dining as is comfortable in Glasgow. Pizzas, pastas, salads and sharing platters are on offer alongside meat and fish main courses. Linguini puttanesca is a simple starter, firm pasta strands with a rich tomato sauce lifted by some deliciously smoky, plump capers. The rustica pizza is a must-try: a huge, crispy-based slab, served on a wooden board. One side has a tomato and spicy vegetable topping while the other is a creamy cheese and potato ‘white pizza’ - moreishly salty and fragrant with rosemary and red onion. Torta Zizzi is warm and sticky with plums and figs, the sweetness of the vanilla pod-infused ice-cream offset perfectly by a strong and nicely bitter macchiato.
- High point: Good place to end shopping and begin a night out
