One of Scotland's most famous seaside cafés, Nardini's refurbished Art Deco diner serves up classic Italian ice-cream, sundaes fish teas and lots more in the connected Tony Macaroni Italian restaurant.
One of Scotland's most famous seaside cafés, Nardini's is an ambitious operation with its enormous revived-Deco interior, an ice-cream parlour, Italian bakery and Italian restaurant. In collaboration with Glasgow restaurateur Toni Macaroni since 2011, the ristorante-pizzeria serves stone-baked pizzas, focaccia and Italo-Scottish concoctions such as lasagne verdi all'haddock. The business is also known for Equi of Hamilton ice cream, made in 35 flavours on the premises - an 'ice cream window' allows you to see it being made with your own eyes.
Established in 1935 and refurbished in 2008 to make the most of its impressive Art Deco design, Nardini’s ice cream parlour and café/restaurant is one of Ayrshire’s – not to mention Scotland’s – most iconic diners. Set on the waterfront in the heart of Largs town centre, a popular holiday spot for day-tripping Glasgow folk for generations, the main selling point is probably still director David Equi’s 32-flavour ice cream menu, although pastry chef Mario Risi’s home-baked Italian cakes and the in-house branch of the connected Tony Macaroni Italian restaurant chain (whose specialities include pizza, pasta, antipasti and focaccia) run it close. For more traditional diners, the café menu includes a good-value fish tea and some inventive ice-cream sundaes, while a live band plays every Friday night.
